Greetings from Great Falls Park!

I am a Virginia resident who lives overseas for my work. When I am away, no matter how long or how short a time, what I miss the most and long for are not the crowded commercial spaces, or the busy cities, not even the convenience of enterprise and innovation. I miss our beautiful lands. I miss the care that is taken in conserving and protecting them. I miss the cleanliness and respect they are given, free of commercialization. The Nation's protected lands are among our most highly prized possession. I purchased a small condo not far from Great Falls Park, knowing I could and would find groundedness and beauty on its lands. The central area, near the Falls themselves, are crowded with the happiness of picnickers and outdoor enthusiasts alike, happily enjoying the benefits of such an agreeable spot. But it doesn't take long to move away from the center, and find a different kind of joy. Tranquility and connectedness, with the incredible beauty of nature. Bravo to the Park Rangers who do an amazing job of conserving and watching out for the Park and all of its denizens. It is the first place I turn to when I return - to scramble, to stroll, to observe and to reconnect with my home. More return trips to come, and I will plan them around other National Parks - those I've been to before and those I have yet to explore. Our National Parks are more American to me than is apple pie! (And considerably better for the waist line!) Thank you, NPCA. I am proud to be a member and to stand with you.

Sincerely,

Susan

P.S. I support the parks because… They are an incredibly rich and beautiful part of our heritage.

Great Falls Park

At Great Falls, the Potomac River builds up speed and force as it falls over a series of steep, jagged rocks and flows through the narrow Mather Gorge. Great Falls Park has many opportunities to explore history and nature, all in a beautiful 800-acre park only 15 miles from the Nation's Capital.
